Nammo secures major F-35 ammunition contracts

Nammo secures new major contracts for its family of 25 mm ammunition for the F-35 with  Germany, Poland, Belgium, Denmark and Switzerland.

Nammo, a leading international defense and aerospace company, is pleased to announce the acquisition of significant orders for its unmatched family of 25mm x 137 rounds, specifically designed for the F-35 fighter jet. From Switzerland and the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) covering Germany, Poland, Belgium and Denmark, Nammo has received contracts for APEX combat ammunition as well as the ballistically matched target practice rounds with Reduced Ricochet Risk (RRR) capabilities. The combined value of the contracts is approximately EUR 60 million.

Production is scheduled to begin in 2026, with deliveries planned over the subsequent 2-3 years. The APEX combat ammunition is expected to play a key role in strengthening NATO’s fighter fleet capabilities well into the future.

The APEX is recognized as the most capable aircraft gun ammunition ever fielded, with its proven capabilities over a wide spectrum of threats. The round features a unique tracer function providing air-policing capabilities, unlike any other ammunition for the F-35.

“These latest orders underscore Nammo’s commitment as a trusted supplier of cutting edge capabilities when it counts, and the demonstrated effectiveness against today´s and tomorrow´s threats, sets it truly apart,” said Anders Nyhus, Director Medium Caliber Ammunition, of Nammo’s Small and Medium Caliber business unit.

Nammo has been working closely with the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (FMA) and the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI), and has invested significant effort and resources in research, development, testing, and qualification to secure flight clearance for the F-35A aircraft.

The 25mm APEX PGU-47/U, designed for the F-35’s GAU-22/A cannon, unites armor-piercing, explosive effects and tracer in one round, delivering high accuracy, extended range, and effectiveness against both air and ground targets. The 25 mm TP-RRR PGU-51/B and the 25 mm TP-T RRR PGU-52/B unites cost efficient training with design features that provides increased safety during training.

The latest contracts follow the first major agreement for this advanced ammunition type signed with Australia last year.
