Nammo to re-establish ammunition production in Denmark

Nammo, a leading Nordic defense company, has signed an agreement with the Danish Ministry of Defense to re-establish ammunition production at the Elling plant in Jutland.  The agreement marks the revival of Denmark’s domestic ammunition manufacturing to strengthen national security and the Nordic defense industrial base.

Under the agreement, Nammo will establish a production facility at the Elling, Jutland site, and a legal entity, Nammo Denmark AS, which will be 15% minority owned by the Danish government. The facility will produce 155 mm and 120 mm shells as well as cartridges in calibers 5.56 and 7.62.

A framework agreement with Danish authorities, will provide Nammo with firm orders and a solid foundation for long-term operations. The Danish government will develop the property and buildings, while Nammo will invest in production capabilities. The initiative will create new jobs, stimulate economic growth, and reinforce Denmark’s role within the Nordic Strategic Partnership Agreement.

“Nammo has the industrial and technical expertise, established supply chains, and strong Nordic ownership to become a long-term partner for Denmark,” said Morten Brandtzæg, President & CEO of Nammo AS. “We are honored by this selection and look forward to commencing production, supporting Denmark’s security of supply and NATO’s collective readiness.”

Production at the new facility is targeted to begin in the second half of 2027
