Our Responsibility

Our license to operate as a leading defense and aerospace company relies on responsible business practices and good corporate citizenship. For Nammo this means that we shall act in an ethically, socially and environmentally responsible manner at all times, in combination with maintaining sound financial results and good governance.

Sustainability means meeting our present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. Sustainability is built on three pillars: people, planet and profits. To create defense and aerospace capabilities in a responsible and sustainable way, Nammo has identified five prioritized areas of sustainability, and integrated these into our business strategy. Below we present each area. You can also read more about our progress within each these areas in our Sustainability Report and the complementary GRI Appendix.

Business Integrity

Nammo aspires to develop and secure long-term sustainable business for our customers and employees.

Our success depends on our compliance with the Code of Conduct and all supporting policies, laws and regulations of all countries in which we operate, and with all applicable national and international codes.

Nammo’s Ethical Code of Conduct sets out the standards of ethical behavior and professional conduct that employees and representatives of Nammo use to guide the interactions with each other, the customers and the business partners. It demonstrates the commitment to integrity in everything we do.

Anti-Bribery and Corruption

Corruption can be defined as the abuse of entrusted power for personal or corporate gain. Nammo has a zero-tolerance policy on corruption and bribery. We believe the best mitigating factor to prevent the risk of corruption is to organize regular training sessions for both our employees and third parties acting on behalf of the company.
In Nammo we tailor our training to different levels of the organization. From general nano- learning for the large majority to specialized dilemma and red flag fraud training to employees in high risk positions.

Labor and Human Rights

We are committed to respecting and protecting human rights in all our operations. We support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights including the International Bill of Human Rights, the core International Labor Organization (ILO) Conventions and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGP)

Our employees are our most valuable resource. It is our responsibility to ensure we provide a sustainable working environment with fair terms and conditions for everyone working for us.
We respect and work in line with internationally proclaimed human rights and ensure that we do not violate any of the human rights principles. These principles are also part of our evaluation process before entering into sales processes and in making supplier selection.

We have a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of human rights violations, including modern slavery and child labor, in both our operations and supply chain.

Export Control

We are committed to ensuring compliance with international trade and export control laws within the relevant jurisdictions.

Export controls, sanctions and other trade restrictions are administered to protect national security and foreign policy interests, as well as to govern how and with whom we do business in other countries.

It is fundamental that we continue to build excellence and remain recognized as an authorized and reliable defense and aerospace group. Failure to meet our trade and export compliance obligations could have severe consequences, including business disruption and fines, loss of trust from our customers, regulators and suppliers and damage to the company’s reputation.

There is an international market for illegal procurement of technology for military use. It is therefore essential that Nammo demonstrates due diligence regarding business conduct; particularly when ensuring that products are sold to authorized parties in accordance with relevant regulations.

Value Chain Integrity

To Nammo, value chain integrity means that all of our business partners operate in an ethical manner that safeguards workers and human rights while protecting the environment.

The Nammo Supplier Conduct Principles state our requirements and expectations to our business partners regarding business practices, personal conduct and working conditions. The principles are founded on the UN Global Compact’s ten principles and the International Labor Organizations (ILO) conventions.

Suppliers are assessed and screened against various lists, including sanction and debarment lists and lists identifying red flags.

We are committed to cooperating with suppliers to ensure that they have appropriate ethical and responsible policies and practices in place and supporting them in closing any gaps the assessment may identify.

If you are a supplier to Nammo and you want to report any irregularities about Nammo you can do so, in strict confidence, to ethics@nammo.com

Employee Safety and Wellbeing

Our success relies on the highly skilled people working in our company. Ensuring our employees’ safety, well-being and continuous competence development is therefore a key priority for us.

Nammo’s human resources policy is based on the principles of equality and diversity – the elimination of unfair discrimination in the workplace contributes to productivity and performance, as it allows people’s talents to be most effectively utilized. We are committed to dignity at work and fair treatment of all colleagues.

Occupational health and safety

Operating in the aerospace and defense industry, we regularly handle energetic materials in addition to conducting significant amounts of mechanical manufacturing, heat treatment, chemical surface treatment and assembly operations.

Safety and security matters have the highest priority within Nammo and are regularly reviewed by management at all levels.

Anti-discrimination and diversity

Nammo is committed to creating a working environment that values diversity, is free from unlawful discrimination and harassment, and is built upon the principle of equal opportunity and affirmative action. We are all responsible for creating an inclusive work environment where every individual feels respected, and where the value of having a diverse workforce is recognized.

Nammo recruits on competence and the belief that diversity is key to our success. We do not discriminate based on gender, marital status, trade union membership, sexual orientation, race, disability, age, religion or any other for the position non-relevant factors.

Environment

We have a direct impact on the environment through our production and testing of products and services, consumption of paper and energy, waste management, procurement, and use of transport.

Climate risk

The impact of global climate changes are monitored and evaluated and Nammo have determined that climate change has only a minor impact on our facilities.

Waste and Hazardous Material Management

We consistently monitor handling of our hazardous material to ensure we are in accordance with national environmental laws and regulations. All Nammo locations must comply with the European REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) regulation of December 18, 2006 as amended and further implemented into national legislation, which aim to protect human health and the environment from risks posed by chemicals.

Emissions

We follow up and measures waste emissions to water and the atmosphere, work to reduce noise levels, and handle other environmental factors in accordance with existing regulations and internal instructions.

Energy

Energy efficiency measures provide economic and environmental benefits. For this reason, reducing energy consumption and energy conservation measures are a high priority at all our locations. By using alternative energy sources, we have already made significant cost savings. Every location shall focus on at least one energy saving project per year.

Water

We operates 28 production facilities in nine different countries and we see a wide variety in both water consumption requirements and associated impacts related to the consumption based on the type of production at each facility.

In order to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals ( UNSDG) towards 2030 we will continue to encourage and measure the development of our facilities in the direction of reducing Nammo’s environmental footprint.

Product Stewardship

We believe that responsibility for a product starts during the innovation process. We focus strongly on the use of environmentally friendly materials in our production lines and processes.

We work with customers to ensure the integrity of our records and the required level of safety for each of our products throughout the product life cycle.
