The manufacturing operation at Indian Head, Maryland was initially established by Nammo in January 2017. Nammo Energetics Indian Head Inc. (NEIH) operates in cooperation with the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), with the intention of supporting the U.S. Department of Defense with energetic products including:
- Advanced air breathing propulsion
- Solid rocket motor propulsion
- Tactical warheads
- Engineering Services
- Demilitarization of U.S. munitions inventory.
The jointly established 30-year Public Private Partnership Agreement (P3) between NEIH and NSWC leverages underutilized facilities, enabling both parties to cooperatively conduct manufacturing operations. As part of the agreement, Nammo will make a significant capital investment in both facilities and equipment, along with human resources, at the Indian Head facility. The investment will be modeled after the state-of-the-art facilities located in Raufoss Norway that is currently producing solid rocket motors on Evolved SeaSparrow Missile (ESSM) and Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM).
