2009 – The International Year of Astronomy!
The city of Gjøvik in Norway marked the occasion of the International Year of Astronomy with different activities during the first two weekends of February.
Representatives from the Missile Products Division at Nammo Raufoss participated with a Hybrid Rocket Motor ground fire demonstration outside the Gjøvik Vitensenter!
The Rocket Association NEAR (Norwegian Experimental Amateur Rocketry) was responsible for a rocket flight demonstration. In heavy snow the Rocket was successfully launched from the shore of lake Mjøsa. The Rocket reached a maximum height of 550 meter after 10 seconds, and landed safely under a parachute after 96 seconds. The rocket carried a small flight computer that was used to measure acceleration, air pressure and more.
This kind of demonstrations is usually only performed at Andøya Rocket Range in Northern Norway. It was therefore a unique happening for the public, being able to watch this Rocket launch.
