ESSM
ESSM (Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile) is a new generation missiles for Ship Air Defence. ESSM is an international cooperative programme responsible for the upgrade of the NATO Sea Sparrow Missile. ESSM can effectively defeat incoming anti-ship missiles.
The US company Raytheon is Prime Contractor for ESSM, and Nammo has the important role as ESSM Rocket Motor responsible in the multinational Consortium.
The high performance Rocket Motor provides rapid acceleration, excellent manoeuvrability as well as long-range flight capabilities for the ESSM missile. These factors are essential to achieve efficient ship self-defence against the threats from modern sea skimming- and cruise missiles.
ESSM is currently one of NATO’s largest and most successful co-operative Programmes.
