Following the signing and ratification of the Cluster Munitions Convention (CMC) adopted in May 2008, the international attention has increased in the area of disposal of cluster munitions. The Cluster Munitions Convention prohibits the use, production, stockpiling and transfer of cluster munitions.
Error in one of Nammo’s product sheets presented at DSEi 2011
In a product sheet from Nammo, promoting the Group’s competence within extended range technology, the Group has, by mistake, reprinted a former product sheet dating from the time before the adoption of the Cluster Munitions Convention. The product sheet shows three different areas of use for extended range technology whereas one of them displays a cluster munition, based on the fact that this was a legitimate product in the past.
Today this is, of course, a wrong utilization from Nammo’s side and all samples of the product sheet was immediately withdrawn during week 39/2011 as we became aware of the situation.
The Nammo Group does not produce any components that are specifically developed for cluster munitions nor does the Group participate in any ongoing cluster munitions program whatsoever.
It was never our intention to promote cluster munitions, on the contrary, Nammo wants to be an industrial partner to Nations who need assistance to demil their stockpiles of cluster munitions. Since the Convention was adopted, Nammo has continuously invested in fully automated processes and equipment for the company’s disposal activity. Nammo has both the technological competence and in-house experience needed to perform secure and environmental friendly disposal of cluster munitions.
