Successful Ariane 5 launch no. 50
On Friday, May 21, Arianespace placed two communications satellites into geostationary transfer orbit.
Arianespace delivered another dual-satellite payload into orbit on 21 May 2010 with a milestone flight that utilized the 50th Ariane 5 launch vehicle.
Lifting off from the Spaceport in French Guiana, this Ariane 5 ECA version successfully orbited the ASTRA 3B commercial telecommunications satellite for Luxembourg-based SES ASTRA, along with the COMSATBw-2 secure military relay spacecraft for Astrium GmbH on behalf of the German Bundeswehr (armed forces).

Nammo has been involved in Ariane 5 since 1991. The first project was the development of the separation motor FE and safe-and-arm device BSA. Nammo became qualified for production and delivery of these two products in 1995, and have since been a regular supplier to Ariane 5. In 2000, Nammo was engaged in the development of the acceleration motor FA, which was qualified in for delivery in 2004. Today Nammo delivers Separation motor FE (16 on each launc), Acceleration motor FA (4 on each launch) and safe-and-arm device BSA (17 on each launch) to all the Ariane 5 launches.
