NAMMO demilitarise MLRS for NAMSA

Nammo Buck GmbH, Germany, has been awarded a significant contract for Demil of MLRS rockets and pods. The contract was awarded by NAMSA (the NATO Maintenance and Supply Agency), on behalf of the Netherlands and UK MoD.

The contract has a potential value of approximately 30 Million Euro and covers work over a period of up to 7 years. Nammo Buck will act as the prime contractor, with Nammo NAD AS in Norway as the main sub-contractor.

“This is a very important contract for Nammo Buck, as it provides us with a stable and long term workload of around 35% of today’s capacity. It gives us the possibility to both make the correct strategic decisions and to further strengthen our current market position”, says Eduard Herbst/Director Marketing, Nammo Buck GmbH.

“We have been working towards a contract for the disposal of the MLRS system for almost 10 years now, so I’m very glad that we finally have been able to secure this significant and important contract”, says Ragnar Waalen, President, Nammo NAD AS.

The Multiple Launch Rocket System is a rocket artillery system that is in use in several NATO countries. The standard M26 rocket contains a warhead with 644 pcs of M77 sub-munitions and a solid Ammonium Perchlorate rocket motor. Several hundred thousands of the M26 rockets are reaching the end of their lifetime and await disposal within the coming 10 years. The significant quantity and the increasing environmental pressure calls for environmentally sustainable industrial processes for both the disposal and the recycling of ingoing materials.

“The NAMSA contract is the result of a long term effort by Nammo’s Demil Division to become the leading supplier of demilitarisation services for complex products in general and the MLRS system in particular”, ends Reijo Bragberg, Executive Vice President, Nammo Demil Division.
